For
most people, before you can apply for a driving test, a theory test
conducted by the DSA has to be taken.
This will consist of a Multiple Choice element and a Hazard Perception
element.
In the Multiple Choice element many areas of driving are covered
such as safety, traffic signs, documents, accidents and vehicle
maintenance etc.
The Hazard Perception element tests your ability to recognise developing
hazards.
To
apply for the Theory Test, you can either fill out an application
form available from your driving instructor or local Driving Test
Centre (address of these centres are in the 'area covered' section
for Northamptonshire ) which you can then post to the Driving Standards
Agency (DSA) or you could call 0870 0101 372 and book direct if
you have a debit/credit card or book online via the DSA website.
When booking by phone or website, please have your debit/credit
card and provisional driving licence Number ready. Alternatively
your driving instructor could book it for you.
When you pass your theory
test you will recieve a certificate valid for 2 years. You will
need to pass your practical driving test during this time.
